Wetlands Permitting
The various states individually regulate wetlands. Additionally, locally appointed boards known as "inland wetlands commissions" or "conservation commissions" administer the wetlands regulations in Connecticut and in Massachusetts. Working with wetlands requirements generally requires significant interface with both local officials and the state regulatory agencies.
To initiate a project in a wetland area, a developer files a permit application, also known as a "notice of intent" with the local regulatory board and the state agency. The board then visits the site and then has public hearings on the merits of the permit application. Following the public hearing, the board issues an approval or denial of the permit application.
Mr. Lewis has represented numerous clients in numerous towns with the filing and processing of wetlands development permit applications. These clients range from major industrial facilities to homeowners.
Mr. Lewis sat on the Dalton, Massachusetts conservation commission for several years. After relocating to Worthington, Massachusetts, Mr. Lewis sat and later chaired that conservation commission for several years.
